Objective
As part of an ongoing Framework Agreement, we were appointed by the City of Stoke-on-Trent Council to provide a temporary classroom solution on the playing field of Sutherland Primary Academy, whilst the main school buildings were demolished and a new facility built. We had to overcome the presence on site of a large badger colony, which resulted in a scheme redesign and the imposition of restricted working practises during the construction phase.
Solution
With enabling works commencing end of the July and a non-negotiable requirement for the school to be fully functional by the end of the October half term, the project was delivered on time and we continued to provide an on-site maintenance service until the Academy moved into its permanent facility.
KEY TASKS
- The construction of an engineered ground foundation solution to provide a load-bearing platform
- Temporary storm and foul water drainage solution including the construction of a foul water pumping station and storm water balancing pond
- Provision of a temporary mains power solution ahead of the construction of a new substation and uprated incoming permanent mains
- Supply, installation, fit out and ongoing hire of modular-build temporary classroom units, configured to provide teaching spaces for Reception through to Year 6, a library, practical rooms and a dedicated Dining/Canteen facility
- Provision of access roads, ramps, hard and soft play areas
